Good Luck, Spoonboy and Hop Along

Last night, I went to go see Good Luck, Spoonboy (w/good luck as backing band), and Hop Along.  Sundials, and Negative Standards played before I got in. The show was at the Ras Hall in Petworth.

I had a lot of choices of music to see last night, mewithoutyou played at the black cat, Fishbone in Falls Church and Screetching Weasel in Baltimore. I had my mothers birthday dinner and I have always loved good luck, and I do like the idea of choosing Spoonboy over Ben Weasel. For those unaware of the split between between Spoonboy’s band the Max Levine Ensemble and Ben Weasel, a good primer can be found here. If you are wondering why I may be mad at Ben Weasel, his actions at SXSW last year still trouble me.

I am very glad I made the choice I did, I had such a good time around some very great people. I love going to shows alone. There is something about being a lone wolf, and the feeling that no one really knows where I am and running into people I know.

When I got in, Hop Along had just started playing and I was blown away. Strong female fronted pop that was interesting and introspective. It had an certain edge that was what I needed to hear at that very moment. I love walking into shows and hearing the perfect music for the mood I am in. I had never heard of them before but I was very happy to learn about them. I bought their album and danced to their songs. They ended with a song entitled with a song called Tibetan Pop Stars.

I have seen Spoonboy play countless times, but with good luck his songs just sounded so much better than they usually do and I was happy to see him shine like that. I hope I get to see them play together again.

Good Luck played and everyone knew their songs and it was a fun dance party of sorts. It put me in such a good mood after.  Their songs have a certain fun element and the lead singer belts the songs so hard and its just a very good time.
