Rainbow Arcade
From some of my favorite albums, No New York to State of the Union, it is clear I always enjoy a good compilation album. Rainbow Arcade provides and interesting and diverse look into many of DC’s greatest local artists. If someone asked me to provide them with album that is emblematic of the DC music scene, I would hand them this album.
The approach to recording was also interesting in of itself Hays Holiday of Bluebrain had each artist come into his studio for a limited block of time for three hours at a time and the artists were given the chance to experiment with many modern home recording innovations. The intent of this approach was to celebrate both the challenges and freedoms of the innovation of home recording.
Some highlights of this album include Laughing Man’s Brilliant Colors which sounds like old school DC hardcore but also the opening track from More Humans Magga is both interesting and catchy at the same time. I of course love Imperial China’s contribution as well. Sphinges on the Lawn by Greenland also blew me away.
