A Night Without Vocals
Last night, I went on a wet bike ride with a friend to see Chris Forsyth and Janel + Anthony at CD Celler in Clarendon. I always love in stores at record shops. While, I was wet and cold for most of the show, I enjoyed a night without yelling the pulsating vocals that I have grown so accustomed to.
Chris Forsyth’s guitar playing was insightful and interesting. Each note took me to a different place. Improvisational music is always great to see live since I am really not sure where it is going next. The songs he played from his new album show a level of growth and maturity, not heard in other albums of his. I ordered his new album today, since I did not have enough my in my backpack last night. I can’t wait to listen to it.
Janel + Anthony were a treat to see live. I liked the mixture between an upright bass and an electric guitar. The pedals used made the sound, rich and full. I could tell they were never sure what would come next.
Lately, at the shows I have been going everything sounds so rehearsed and predictable. It was a nice change to see something that embraced imperfections and let them fade into new exciting sounds.
